Wonduruba Community Chairperson condemns Saturday attack

The Chairperson of the Wonduruba Community has condemned the killing that occurred in the area on Saturday, describing the act as barbaric during the Lenten season. Authorities of Wonduruba Administrative Payam told Eye Radio on Monday, March 30, that 36 people, including 24 civilians and 12 soldiers, were killed and 16 others were injured following an attack on a mining site on Saturday. The attackers, suspected to be from opposition forces, opened fire on civilians at Kare-Nare, also known as the Khor Khaltan area, at 8:00 PM on Saturday. In an interview with Eye Radio, Monday, March 30, the Chairperson of the Wonduruba Community, Eng. Juma Stephen reacted to the incident and the death of citizens. He extended condolences to the families of the victims and questioned the violence occurring during the Lenten season. “We, as the community of Wonduruba, are shocked by the news which happened in our area called Kare-Nare or Khor Khaltan,” Eng. Juma Stephen stated. “We, as the community of Wonduruba, condemn this act and offer our condolences to the families of the victims. The Christian community is in a holy week, and such an incident is happening.” The local administration continues to monitor the situation in Wonduruba following the events at the mining site.
