Warrap State inaugurates new courts, prisons, and police stations inaugurated in Tonj East

Authorities in Warrap State have inaugurated 12 newly built and renovated rule of law facilities in Tonj East County to strengthen justice delivery and restore order in an area affected by widespread violence. The facilities, including court yards, prison houses and police stations, were constructed by the United Nations Development Programme under the Kong Koc Phase I stabilization project targeting hotspot areas. The infrastructure was established in Romic, the headquarters of Tonj East, and handed over to state authorities during a ceremony attended by the state governor, Bol Wek Agoth, senior government officials, security institutions, development partners and community representatives. Presiding over the event, Governor Agoth said the facilities will contribute to maintaining and ensuring order and improving the rule of law. The governor described the new infrastructure as more than just buildings, saying they are “vital tools for peace” that will strengthen justice delivery systems and contribute to long-term stability across the state. Meanwhile, Anastasie Nyirigira, the UNDP representative, emphasized that protecting the facilities is a shared responsibility among communities and authorities. Nyirigira expressed confidence that the new infrastructure will help ensure justice prevails, urging residents not to take the law into their own hands.
