SSNBS rejects over 20 unsafe maize shipments at Nimule border

The South Sudan National Bureau of Standards has denied entry to more than 20 consignments of white maize grain at the Nimule border point after routine inspections found them non-compliant with national safety and quality standards. In a post on the SSNBS Facebook page on Tuesday, officials at the Nimule Station said the maize shipments failed to meet the requirements set under the South Sudan East African Standards, raising concerns over potential risks to public health. In response, the bureau has ordered the immediate re-export of all affected consignments back to their country of origin. Authorities said that the move is not intended to disrupt legitimate trade, but to enforce compliance with established regulations and protect consumers. The rejected shipments were transported by multiple trucks bearing different registration numbers, all of which have been directed to return the goods. SSNBS reiterated its strict zero-tolerance policy on substandard imports and exports, urging traders to adhere fully to national standards and inspection procedures. The bureau reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding public health and maintaining the quality of goods in the South Sudanese market.
