South Sudan, Norway strengthen ties as ministers hold talks on elections, peace

Minister of Foreign Affairs Monday Semaya Kumba has held bilateral discussions with the visiting Minister of International Development of the Kingdom of Norway. According to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Åsmund Aukrust, the Minister of International Development of the Kingdom of Norway, and his accompanying delegation attended the meeting. During the meeting, the two leaders discussed the current political landscape in South Sudan, including ongoing efforts and preparations toward the forthcoming elections. The two sides also agreed on the importance of constructive engagement and dialogue to further strengthen the longstanding and historic bilateral relations between the two countries. The discussions also covered key areas of cooperation, as well as issues of mutual concern and interest. Minister Semaya commended the Norwegian government for its support and partnership with South Sudan across various sectors. On his part, Minister Aukrust commended the ongoing dialogue among South Sudanese leaders, humanitarian efforts, and other critical sectors. He also pledged Norway’s continued commitment to supporting peace, stability, and development in the country. The Norwegian Minister is also expected to meet with other senior government officials.
