The Chief Administrator of the Abyei Administrative Area says seven more people have died out of 80 patients receiving treatment following a deadly attack in Abiemnhom County on Sunday morning. Charles Abyei Jok made the remarks after conducting a field visit to Amenabeg Hospital, a facility managed by Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF). The hospital is currently treating dozens of people wounded in the violence that occurred in Abiemnhom County of the Ruweng Administrative Area. “We came to Amenabeg Hospital to see the situation of the wounded people who were shot yesterday in the Abiemnhom County incident,” Jok said. “The number of people that have arrived at this hospital so far is 80 patients. Among them we have lost seven and 73 are still undergoing treatment.” He commended the MSF medical team for their efforts despite the hospital’s limited capacity. “I want to take this opportunity to thank Amenabeg Hospital being managed and operated by MSF. They have done a very great job. The challenge is overwhelming. As you can see, the hospital is small and the capacity is also limited but despite that they have done their level best,” he added. According to the Chief Administrator, many of the injured sustained severe wounds, with several reported to be in critical condition. The latest seven deaths bring the total number of fatalities following the Abiemnhom attack to 176, raising concerns over escalating violence in the area.
