The Inter-University Council for East Africa has admitted Ayii University as a full member of the regional higher education body. In a letter dated February 27, 2026, the council said its 42nd Executive Committee meeting held on January 29 in Nairobi approved the admission of the Juba-based institution with immediate effect. Acting Executive Secretary of the council, Idris A. Rai, said the decision followed an application submitted by the university seeking membership in the regional organization. “I am pleased to inform you that the 42nd Executive Committee meeting held on 29th January 2026 in Nairobi, Republic of Kenya approved admission of Ayii University from the Republic of South Sudan as a full member with immediate effect,” the letter reads. The council said the membership requires the university to pay an annual subscription fee of four thousand US dollars based on its student enrollment. According to the council, the fee is calculated from the total number of 3,025 students currently enrolled at the institution, in accordance with provisions under the IUCEA Act of 2009 which guides the council’s functions and operations. Professor Rai congratulated the university on the milestone and expressed optimism about future cooperation. “On behalf of the Executive Committee, I congratulate Ayii University and look forward to a mutually beneficial relationship,” he said. The Inter-University Council for East Africa promotes collaboration among universities in East Africa in areas such as academic standards, research, and quality assurance.
