Health authorities in Northern Bahr el Ghazal have confirmed nine cases of measles in Aweil Centre and Aweil West, prompting plans for a vaccination campaign to protect children and curb the outbreak. The Health Education Focal Person at the State Ministry of Health, Luka Lual, said two patients are currently admitted to the hospital and are in stable condition. No deaths have been reported. “Since January, measles cases have been increasing in Aweil Centre and Aweil West,” Lual was cited by a UN radio as saying. “The Ministry of Health, together with partners, has developed a micro-plan to vaccinate the two counties.” The vaccination campaign aims to reach vulnerable communities in both counties and contain the spread of the disease. Health authorities said parents and caregivers should ensure that all children receive the vaccine once the campaign begins. Measles, a highly contagious viral disease, can be deadly for young children if left unvaccinated. Officials stressed that early immunization is the most effective way to prevent further infections. Health officials also said the campaign will involve coordination with local clinics, community leaders, and humanitarian partners to ensure vaccines reach hard-to-access areas. “We are working to make sure no child is left behind,” Lual said. “Prompt vaccination is critical to stop the outbreak before it spreads further.” The Ministry of Health continues to monitor the situation closely and is calling on communities to report any new cases immediately.
