Kiir relieves peace advisor, three deputy governors in new decrees

President Salva Kiir has relieved several government officials through a series of presidential decrees announced Wednesday evening, including a presidential advisor and three deputy governors representing the opposition. In the decrees broadcast on state television, the president relieved Moses Gatkuoth from his position as Presidential Advisor for Peace. The president also dismissed three deputy governors affiliated with the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-in-Opposition (SPLM-IO). Those relieved include Isaac Akol Mathiang, Deputy Governor of Lakes State; Tor Tungwar, Deputy Governor of Unity State; and Mary Alphonse Lodira, Deputy Governor of Eastern Equatoria State. In separate decrees, Kiir appointed new officials to fill the vacant posts. Isaac Luka Manga was named Deputy Governor of Lakes State, William Gatjiek Geay was appointed Deputy Governor of Unity State, and Karlos Andrew was appointed Deputy Governor of Eastern Equatoria State. The decrees took effect immediately.
