Kiir reappoints Abdelbagi as Vice President

President Salva Kiir Mayardit has relieved Vice President and Chair of the Service Cluster Josephine Joseph Lagu of her duties, in changes announced Friday evening on SSBC. Lagu, chairperson of the South Sudan National Movement for Change (SSNMC), was appointed Vice President in February 2023, replacing Hussein Abdelbagi Akol. Abdelbagi, affiliated with the South Sudan United Front/Army (SSUF/A), was first appointed Vice President in February 2020 under the Revitalized Peace Agreement and has now been reappointed following Lagu’s removal.
