The Commissioner of Kajo-Keji County, Wani Jackson Mule, has urged the government to modernize the Lu’bajo bridge after a vehicle traveling in a funeral convoy from Juba to Bori Boma was swept off by floodwaters, killing nine people, including eight women and a child. Five passengers survived the incident and are undergoing treatment at the main county hospital. Two of the survivors are reported in critical condition. “They managed to pull them out. Five are hospitalized and nine were pulled while already dead,” said Commissioner Mule. “Some are stable, but around two are in unstable condition. The hospital is managing the situation.” Mule said the bridge, built during the Khartoum era, is outdated and dangerous during the rainy season. “This bridge should be modernized and a new one built to save lives. During the rainy season it will continue to misbehave,” he said. Residents have gathered at the scene and in surrounding areas to mourn the nine victims. Local authorities continue to monitor the five survivors and provide medical support.
