JEDCO to cut power to several areas across Juba in rationing over global energy crisis

2026-03-25 - 10:14

The main electricity distributor in Juba, JEDCO, has announced power cuts to a number of areas in a power rationing exercise, citing impacts of the ongoing US-Israel war in Iran that has disrupted global energy supply chains. In a statement issued this morning, JEDCO, which stands for Juba Electrical Distribution Company, said several areas in the city will experience temporary power interruptions beginning at 5 o’clock in the evening as a result of load shedding. The latest power interruption comes as the company has been intermittently cutting electricity to several areas since May 2025 to carry out maintenance repairs. The company said the measure is necessary to ensure the continued operation of essential services and to maintain long-term grid stability. JEDCO said the load shedding will be carried out on a rotational basis, with affected areas experiencing temporary power interruptions at different times. It added that it will announce a power allocation schedule detailing the areas that will be affected by the outages. The company also advised customers to unplug sensitive electronic equipment during “off” periods to prevent damage during restoration. JEDCO assured that it is working tirelessly with stakeholders to mitigate the impact of these geopolitical challenges. The electricity distributor is a public-private partnership between Ezra Construction & Development Group, which generates electricity, and the South Sudan Electricity Corporation, holding 52% and 48% shares respectively. It began operations in November 2019, distributing power generated by the EZRA plant.
